Mt Nessing Road
The Mt Nessing Golf Club is a 9-hole course situated beside the Mt Nessing Road approximately 11kms from the SH8 turnoff at Albury.
With a par 70 layout of 5252 metres the course has many interesting and challenging holes, of which the best three are probably the first, “Aorangi” (283 metres), the sixth, “Bumpy” (132 metres) and the seventh, “Waterfall” (327 metres).
The feature hole is “Aorangi”, so called because on fine days a perfect view of Aorangi/Mt Cook northwards over Burkes Pass is obtained. “Bumpy” is notable because its green is situated on a narrow terrace which is separated from the tee by broken, stony ground. “Waterfall” has proved to be the graveyard of any good cards over the years because of the dog-leg formed by the Opawa River at a position cunningly contrived to catch the slightly pushed or sliced drive.
In 2014 the Club celebrated its 75th anniversary by rebuilding its ancient and rather dilapidated clubhouse and transforming it to the comfortable and welcoming building here today.
