Primary schools in the district offered the chance to have a go at golf

PGA Member, Matthew Davis from Ashburton GC, has been offering primary schools in the district the chance to have a go at golf. Ranging from year 1 through to year 8, last year Matt says he saw 1800 kids with a similar programme. After having a go in school, Matt offers after school programmes, as well as team golf and coaching opportunities on Sundays at the club. On top of all this he's been helping Methven Golf Club start up Youth Golf on Sundays and they've already attracted 12-14 new youth players from this!       Graham KeenAorangi Club and Development Manager

As you are all aware Covid-19 has had a major impact on local Golf, most importantly Aorangi pennants. Our pennant season provides valuable data for Aorangi selectors and helps shape our six man teams for the end of year Interprovincial events.  Due to Pennants being cancelled we are doing things a little differently compared to previous years. Our Masters and Senior selectors will be assembling eight-nine man squads and running events, pitting players from both masters and seniors against each other, utilising these results to aid in the selection of the final six players to contest both senior and master interprovincial events. As of Tuesday the 28th of April, the following golf courses in the Aorangi region have communicated that they will be open to their club members only (No Green Fee Players). Each club has, and is committed to applying all 20 guidelines as stipulated by the Government and NZ Golf. 2020 Aorangi Pennants Competition Cancellation - Covid-19 15 April  2020 Last evening the Aorangi Board held a special meeting to discuss the process for exiting Covid-19 Level 4 and the implications of Level 3 for golf in Aorangi. With level 3 requiring restrictions on numbers for gatherings, 2 metre spacing between players, hygiene requirements for clubs on and off the course and no opening of club houses, it has become impossible for pennants to continue for 2020. 18 March 2020 This evening the Aorangi Golf Association Board met to discuss our position on the Covid-19 virus and how we as an association will manage this unprecedented situation. After a lengthy discussion which covered all aspects of the game, it has been decided that ALL Pennant golf (both men and women) along with any other Aorangi managed tournaments will be cancelled until the 3rd May 2020. With an already crowded calendar, the cancelled games will not be replayed.
