The team of Lynda Brown, Ginny Bolderston, Rachel Eder, Marg Coughlan , Sharon Bradford and Angela Mowbray competed in the 2020 Women’s Interprovincials in Auckland
With the improved format of a 13 team round robin the team were presented some challenging opponents, Auckland , Bay of Plenty and Wellington
Up against Tasman and Otago the team were hoping for better results as these teams were of similar strength
Otago proved very strong and a close match against Tasman came down to one game
Completion of the round robin had the team in second to last ( as had no team wins) but they scraped into playoffs for 11 th by a half from Waikato
The enormous disparity between the strong , central teams of Wellington, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Canterbury has never been as obvious as it was at this tournament
A tournament review has been done this year by NZ Golf to improve the experience for all teams
The Aorangi team played with enormous pride and determination
An exciting hole in one by Ashburton’s , Sharon Bradford on the 8th on Friday was awesome for her and the team.
Particularly as the course was set up very long and the par 3s all extremely demanding
Going forward our Association will be looking at how we can improve our performances in the men’s and women’s tournaments
Our association has made a commitment to the National tournament scene and with the Men’s interprovincials to be held at Ashburton in 2021 and the women’s to be in the South Island ( location TBA) there is a drive to produce as competitive teams as possible.
Thanks must go to our Managers Graham Keen and Angela Mowbray , who take time off to care for our teams
These people put great energy and support into ensuring our teams are in the best form to represent their province
Also a huge thanks from Aorangi must go to those people who spend hours applying for funds , completing all the bookings for tournaments and ensuring the teams are not only kitted out but are organised to arrive at the events as prepared as possible.
Thanks to Trust Aoraki for their funding and also to Pub Charity for funds to purchase new uniforms
