Men's Toro - Finals Day

11 December 2017

Mens Toro Photo with Trophy LR Greetings again from Mangawhai. Today was finals day. It was another fine sunny day with a North Easterly wind. The semi finals were:  Auckland v Hawkes BayNorth Harbour v Waikato  Auckland and North Harbour were winners creating a battle of the Harbour Bridge.  It was a very even final but in the end North Harbour came away with the win. Our team that was 15th last year ended up in 9th position which was very credible indeed. A great result for Aorangi Golf. Well done boys, it was a pleasure managing you all. The attached photo is with the team holding the Toro chipping trophy that...

Men's Toro - Day 3

8 December 2017

Hi again from beautiful Mangawhai. Only one round today for all teams as the afternoon is for some R & R. Badly needed after days of 36 holes in late 20's early 30's temperatures. Aorangi played Tasman and we beat them 3 & half to 1 & half. Wins to Jordan Green, Regan Stills and Jeff Hewitt and a half to captain Daniel Perham. It was a tight match but the guys stuck to it and logged up another win. After a bye tommorrow morning we play our last round robin game against the home team Northland. A win here against...

Women's Toro - Day 3

7 December 2017

The final day of pool play proved to be as tough as expected . Playing Northland and Manawatu Wanganui our team struggled with the level of consistency and experience needed. The course had a number of extremely demanding holes. The number 14 par 3 proved the nemesis for many players with a par a victory over the hole. But our Jessica  Shearer had birdied the hole 3 times over of the the 6 rounds. This achievement reflected Jessica’s awesome golfing ability. She went to the 18th both rounds today achieving a win and a half. At number 4, Kathryn Baker had a great half...

Yet another really hot day at Mangawhai. After a good day yesterday the team were focused on winning one of  today's two matches against top regions Bay of Plenty and Waikato. Our guys played exceptionally well against Bay of Plenty this morning and won 3 & half to 1 & half much to the surprise of many at this event. Wins by Regan Stills, Daniel Perham and Jeff Hewitt  and a half by Jordon Green. This afternoon we were beaten 5- 0 by a very skilled young Waikato team. The boys struggled in the afternoon heat and were outplayed. They never stopped...

6 December 2017

Another magnificent day in beautiful Mangawhai. We arrived here on Saturday and have enjoyed stunning weather since. It looks like being fine and warm all week. The team have been working hard on their games and were ready to get started. First up was Auckland, the result being 2 & half each.Solid wins to Jordan Green & Damian Rodgers and a half to Captain Daniel Perham. I think we stunned the Aucklanders. Next up in afternoon was Wellington, last years champions. Stacked with top players including Daniel Hillier the top NZ amateur, Aorangi lost 3 & half to 1 & half . Captain...

Day 2 - Women's Toro

6 December 2017

Tuesday and Day 2 at the Women’s Toro was always going to be tough for the Aorangi team. Playing once again some very tough opponents . The morning round saw Aorangi go down 4 and 1 to Wellington. Jessica Shearer had a brilliant win at number 5. In the afternoon against North Harbour, whose number one is the present NZ Amateur champion at 14 years of age!!, the closest match was Lynda Brown who lost 1 down . Generally the girls performed to their ability and played very well but the lack of consistency at crucial times was their main down fall. 4 rounds...

First Day at Women's Toro

5 December 2017

Aorangi had an almost perfect start to the tournament but went down narrowly to Taranaki 3 and 2. Kathryn Baker had a great start to the tournament with a 6/4 win and Jessica Shearer hung on for a one up win with Sharon Bradford losing on the 18th. The afternoon match against Auckland also had some close games with Ginny Bolderston showing the way at number one by beating NZ representative Rose Zheng 2/1. Jessica Shearer just lost on the 18th. The Aorangi team were all competitive early but Auckland showed the dominance in the second nine.

14 November 2017

Aorangi Freyberg Masters Team 2017 The 2017 Men’s Freyberg Masters team arrived in Auckland on Saturday the 4th November. The team drove to Whitford Park Golf course and played a practice round in heavy rain. It was decided getting wet was a small price to pay for getting an extra look at the course. Saturday evening was spent setting up camp at our Air BnB and drying bags, clubs and clothing! On Sunday it was back to the course for the official practice round and the opening ceremony. The course was in immaculate condition and we were all very keen to get the games started. The team...
