Lesley Dobbs was awarded Life Membership of Aorangi Golf at the AGM on 25 Nov 2015 following her many years of service. Due to ill health she had to stand down from Board mid 2015. She was presented with a commemorative plaque by Board Chairman Gavin Smith and Debbie Lovett privately at her nursing home.
Lesley began her golf in 1969 at Maungati Golf Club and joined their committee the year after. As with many smaller clubs, the office bearers alternated positions with maybe a short spell off the committee but she was still there in 2015 when ill health prevented her continuing. Accordingly she was awarded life membership of Maungati
As a golfer she was a fierce competitor in pennants playing for both St Andrews (silver) and Maungati (Open and Veterans) not to mention appearing at tournaments all over the district
She joined the South Canterbury Women's Golf Association in 2004 and took the position of pennants secretary. In 2008 after the merger between men’s and women’s associations, she became a board member of the Aorangi South Canterbury Golf Association. Since then she has single-handedly organised all women’s pennants in Aorangi as well as juggling the Aorangi programme – a measure of her knowledge and amount of work is that her position is being filled by a match committee of four.
