Men's Representative Triangular and South Island Masters

Posted by: on 4 October 2016

Senior Men

Held at the Chisholm Park Golf Club in Dunedin on the weekend of 1-2 October, the Aorangi Men's Seniors played Otago and Southland in matchplay over 2 rounds.

Due to the requirement of 10 players Aorangi was fortunate to have some new and enthusiastic players to make up the team.

The team (in playing order) and results:
Dan Perham, Highfield : 2 wins
Garth Simpson, Highfield : 1 win and 1 loss
Jeff Hewitt, Tinwald : 1 win and 1 half
Brett Strange, Waimate: 2 losses
Marcus Tessier, Pleasant Point : 2 losses
Rodney O”Neill, Tinwald : 1 win and 1 loss
Sean Gately, Geraldine : 1 win and 1 loss
Damian Rodgers, Highfield : 1 win and 1 loss
Hamish Scarsbrook, Temuka : 1 win and 1 loss
Jeremy Duckmanton, Rakaia : 1 win and 1 half

A remarkable effort by our team with the overall points being:

Otago 10.5
Aorangi 10
Southland 9.5

It is a positive result going forward with some obvious new talent coming through.

The next representative event being versus Central Canterbury on the 16 October at Hororata.

Masters Men

The Masters team of 8 had a challenging competition versus Otago, Southland and Canterbury. Played over 54 holes this was an important opportunity for our players to experience the Chisholm Links course , the venue for the up-coming Diners Club Freyberg Masters 31 October – 5 November.

Although the final result of third place may be a little disappointing most games went down to the wire.

The team (in playing order) and results:
Jason Leary, Geraldine : 2 losses and 1 win
Jeremy Goodman, Maungati : 3 losses
Regan Stills, Tinwald : 1 win and 2 losses
Robbie Bell, Ashburton : 2 wins and 1 loss
John Smitheram, Tinwald : 1 loss and 2 halves
Dayle Lucas, Methven : 2 losses and 1 win
Travis Cook, Gleniti : 2 losses and 1 win
Ray Grant, Highfield : 2 wins and 1 loss.

It will be a challenging decision for the selectors on the team for The National Masters. But Aorangi can be sure they have another very strong team and will be hoping to perform as well as they have in the past and maybe even bring home the trophy.

The next event for the Men's Masters is also the Central Canterbury game at Hororata on the 16 October.
