The fifth round and Final of the Aorangi Silver Pennant was held at the Temuka Golf Course on Monday 14th March. The course was in great condition even though weather has been dry and the weather was perfect for some great golf.
Mayfield were convincing winners of the North Zone. The South Zone was very close with Waimate, Tokarahi and St Andrews/Timaru all in contention to make the final with the last round to be played in the morning. St Andrews could only manage a draw against Pleasant Point so this enabled Tokarahi who defeated Waimate by 7 points to 3 to progress to the final by one point.
In the afternoon Mayfield and Tokarahi played a very competitive match with both teams being equal after 11 holes and still locked together after 18 holes. Players 1 and 2 had to play on and the Mayfield team from left, Lal Mulligan, Jan Clucas, Judy Webb and Glenys Carr managed to win and half the first playoff hole which game gave them the win.
Results of the Final, Glenys Carr (Mayfield) lost to Sandra Gibson 5/3, Judy Webb (Mayfield) beat Carolyn Rowland 2/1, Jan Clucas (Mayfield) beat Margaret Hore 1 up and Lal Mulligan (Mayfield) lost to Val Clarke 2/1.
Glenys Carr won the playoff hole.
