Waitangi Day Tournament
This tournament, sponsored by Placemakers (Timaru), is played
annually on Waitangi Day by teams of 6 (3 men and 3 women)
representing the boards/committees of golf clubs in the Aorangi
area. Competition is decided by aggregate of all six stableford
scores as carded (that is, no adjustment for male/female NZSCR
differences). The winning club get to host the next year's event
unless already holder or smaller course unable to cater for the
field of in excess of 100 players.
The
Aorangi
South Canterbury
Secretary will advise clubs of the completion in advance, and provide
entry forms for clubs to annotate with team members and return.
Club Teams sheets are to be returned the Aorangi Secretary or
the Match Chairman.
The names of the competitors
are to be collated by the Match Chairman, who will post the draw
in the local newspapers and on the website. (Approximately 118
players last year)
Teams will consist
of six players, 3 men, and 3 women.
Players
will play in fours with women together, men together.
The game is
a stableford round over 18 holes, with all team members’ scores
counting.
The winning team will be the
team with the highest total combined stableford.
An Aorangi
South Canterbury board Team may be entered, however they are not
eligible to win the tournament.
The number of players suggests either a 'shot gun' start or
several holes used for starting to get as many into the
clubhouse together at the end. This will be advised when the
draw is posted.
There will be 3 team prizes
and a number of individual prizes. Prizes will be vouchers,
which will be
arranged by the
Aorangi Golf.
The Aorangi Board will be responsible for starting and collating
results with assistance from the host club. To ensure the day is
an enjoyable and successful event it would be ideal if the host
club could provide bar and catering services to the competitors
on completion of the competition. A light meal is usually
provided.
The results are to
be faxed to the Timaru Herald on completion of prize giving, and
placed on the website by the Website Manager.
The winners will host the
following Waitangi Day tournament. If the current year’s host
club wins then the team that is in 2nd place will
host the tournament.
The tournament is to be played
on an 18 hole course, and in the likelihood of a club with a 9
hole course winning, then the Aorangi Match Committee in
conjunction with the winning club will nominate a suitable
venue.
